Popeyes Chicken - Johnny finally tries Popeyes

Ever since Popeye's opened (or reopened) its doors in the Philippines, I always have wanted to taste its food offerings. And finally, when one branch opened near us at SM San Lazaro, I was able to try its world famous fried chicken as well as all some other food items in the menu.

Across the world, Popeye's is a famous fast food joint because of its souther-style fried chicken paired with buttermilk biscuits. The people behind this return of the famous fast food joint (not your famous sailor man) was actually the same people from the Kuya J Group.
Here are some of the food items I tried.
2-pc Southern-style Fried Chicken with 1 Buttermilk Biscuit (Php179.00)

Honestly, the fried chicken is good by itself. Its crispy and the meat is tender. Very similar to fried chicken from other fast food places. I also liked the spicy variation than the mild one. The gravy, on the other hand, is a standout for me. It doesn't taste burnt and not that peppery.

The accompanying soft, crumbly, and sweet honey biscuit is a perfect compliment to the savory and crispy fried chicken. Although a little dry, the honey packet included makes it complete.

#YesPAPA recommendation I also tried dipping the honey-soaked biscuit to the gravy and it resulted to a very delicious combination. You can also do the same for the fried chicken and make everything #YesPAPA
I also ordered Cajun Fries (Php42.00 for Regular) and Cajun Rice (Php35.00) to accompany my meal.

The Cajun rice is nothing spectacular. The rice is sticky and has small bits of meat (not sure if beef or pork). For me, it seems that its taste and texture does not suit the chicken very well.

The Cajun fries, on the other hand, is better. Its size and appearance is very similar to Wendy's fries but a little bit tastier.
Overall, Popeye's is a very good alternative for your fried chicken cravings. If you have the time and patience, i suggest you buy the honey biscuits from Popeye's and partner it with fried chicken from other places.
